Off-Roading in Howard County: Exploring Patapsco Valley State Park with the INEOS Grenadier
If you want a vehicle for all-terrain excursions in Maryland, consider the INEOS Grenadier. Boasting supreme levels of power and capability, this unique "throwback" midsize SUV is at home in the wild. MileOne INEOS Grenadier has a few suggestions for where you can off-road right after purchasing this do-everything SUV. Â
Â
Green Ridge to Gorge TrailÂ
This broad, freshly graded gravel road is widely regarded as one of the best off-road settings in the area. It runs for five miles along a gorge and a river, along which are several scenic overlooks. This trail is rated "Easy", but a challenge awaits you and your new or pre-owned Grenadier in the form of several steep inclines. Spring, summer, and fall are the best times to visit. Tire chains are highly recommended if you decide to tackle this route in winter. Â
Peters Mill RunÂ
If you don't mind a little bit of a drive, Peters Mill Run near Fort Valley, VA is worth the trip. This 8.3-mile trail is ideal for those new to off-roading. It can be entered from either the north or south end, but the southernmost two miles are the most challenging. Most of the trail is rated a 2 out of 10 on the difficulty scale, but a few sections on the southern end feature small obstacles that increase the overall rating to three. And if you'd like to spend the night, the Little Fort Campground has 11 free tent sites available.Â
Patapsco Valley State ParkÂ
When you're ready to take a break from off-roading near our Silver Spring, MD INEOS Grenadier dealership, visit our parts department for kayak and bike racks and set out for Patapsco Valley State Park. It's Maryland's largest state park, situated along 32 miles of the Patapsco River and covering 16,043 acres. Recreational activities include hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and camping. You can go kayaking or mountain biking, but you can't use ORVs of any kind here. That's fine, because you'll want to take your time in the park's nationally known scenery and its more than 200 miles of trails, 70 miles of which are maintained. There are also historical sites to see, such as the Avalon Area suspension bridge, which mill workers once used to cross the river.Â
