Hurricanes can strike anywhere from the Gulf Coast to the Eastern Seaboard, causing damage to cars, garages, and homes. We know you’re already prepared to protect your home and your family; now it’s time to spare a thought for your car. Take these steps from the team at MileOne INEOS Grenadier to protect your vehicle and stay safe this hurricane season.

Getting Ready

It’s always good to have an emergency kit in your car ready to go, especially if you’re in the path of Hurricane Helene. A first aid kit, jumper cables, maps, and equipment to change flat tires are all valuable things to pack. You’ll need to protect yourself against the weather, too, so pack some extra blankets and a poncho or other rain protection in case you must get out.

Evacuating the Area

You should try to evacuate the area before the rain starts, but if you can’t, drive carefully. Driving slowly, avoiding hard turns, and following the tracks of the car in front all reduce your chances of hydroplaning and losing control. Never drive through standing water during a hurricane, as it’s impossible to know how deep it is or if there’s sharp debris underneath.

Protecting Your Garage

If you’re staying put at home, you’ll need to get your garage hurricane-ready. In addition to boarding up windows and doors, securely latch your garage door. Making a mistake securing the door or not disengaging the automatic mechanism can damage your garage and car.
